This is a LILA/NLA co-op team with NLA as the host.
From the Couch to 5K - Middle School Cross Country Running
Grades 5 - 8
Cost: $60 for Mondays-Only or... $100 for Mondays plus Thursdays.
Mondays and Thursdays - September 13, 16, 20, 23, 27, 30 and October 4, 7, 11, 14, and 18 (Students may choose the Monday-Only option or join the Thursday Race Day also).
Cross Country is an amazing, life-long running sport that focuses on distance running. In this session, students will learn the fundamentals of distance running, build stamina and confidence, and develop flexibility and core-strength through a series of guided practices that are designed to take each runner from Couch to 5K.
Students should choose one of the following options:
- Monday "Fundamentals" only ($60 for six sessions): Learn fundamentals, develop endurance and strengthen your core. Speed drills, endurance challenges and running games.
- Mondays plus Thursday "Race Day" sessions ($100 for eleven sessions): Challenge yourself as you try to improve your performance on the course. The first Thursday will be a one mile run against the clock. Each week, we will make it a little longer and build toward a full 5K (3.1 mile run).
All practices are 2:30 to 3:30 at the NLA K-8 building.
Minimum of 6 students. No max - everyone welcome!
3) Sports Physical. This is mandatory but is only required Every Three Years. (ex. 7th grade and 10th grade or 9th grade and 12 grade). If you have a valid physical on file, you are not required to complete one again. In most cases, we will not allow a student to practice or compete until a current physical is completed. NOTE: Runners without a physical on file should still attend all practices, participate in stretching and assist with team activities. Please turn in new sports physicals to Christie Lasch at LILA.
