Mar. 2 - Evening Conferences

Mar. 3 - Morning Conferences

Dear Families,

We had our Kinder Prep Open House with new families yesterday morning and evening and it was a great time to see and get to know new students and families.  This week we will work on letter Q and the Heart as a shape. We will also will continue working on “The Family” Unit. You will be getting an All ABOUT ME poster to complete with your child. Please take a few minutes to do this with your child and send it back ASAP. They love to share things they have done with you in our class.

We at Kinder Prep also want to announce to you that two of our Kinder Prep teachers will be participating in the Polar Plunge in Forest Lake on February 25th. All the money that  people donate will be for the school. It is something fun, but also really risky, but they are ready to do that  and more for this school, so I want to encourage you to make a donation online in the following link:

Finally, we want to remind you that if your child is currently in Kinder Prep you do not  have to apply again for next school year. If you are planning to change the days to attend for next school year 2017-18, please email Blanca letting her know your new choice. If you are planning to attend the same days your child is right now, please pay the $40 Registration Fee through Fee Pay in order to save the spot. Again, thank you for helping us make this such a positive bridge between the caring and learning of home and school! We look forward to a fun and educational year and are so happy to know you will be part of it.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to email or call.

Hi Families,

We are excited to be back at school!  We hope all the students have enjoyed this first week after the Winter break.  All the staffing changes have worked good.

We have been doing cool activities this week and we have had the opportunity to post some of our pictures at the LILA Twitter. That is why we want to invite you to follow us there and have the opportunity to see all we are doing at the school.

Here is the link you can use to get in https://twitter.com/lila_mn

We also want to remind you to bring winter cloth to school. Some students are not wearing snow pants and boots for the playground time and it’s been difficult to find enough clothes for all of them. Also. please write your child’s name inside all the clothes they bring to school. It will make easier to not lose anything. There are some students who have exchanged their snow pants. So if any of you have ones at home that are not your child’s, please bring them back and we will try to find out the owner. There is a box in front of each class with a lot of gloves and hats; make sure to check if any of those belong to your child.

Finally, we want to remind you that all Kinder Prep students who wish to apply for LILA 2016-2017 kindergarten must submit an application before January 15th’s enrollment lottery.  LILA students with siblings enrolled at LILA also need to apply, being sure to check “YES” for “sibling preference.”

Please, feel free to contact us for anything you need.

Below are important details for this week:

Early Childhood Screening

In Minnesota all children are required to complete Early Childhood Screening before they enter public school kindergarten. Screening is FREE and should be done before your child’s 4th birthday. This is an opportunity for you to review your child’s growth and

development and to follow up on any concerns. It includes a developmental assessment, vision and hearing testing, height and weight measurement, immunization and health history review and a parent interview. Screening is NOT an examination to determine readiness for school. Rather, its purpose is to identify conditions which might interfere with your child’s ability to learn.

Please call 651-982-8301 to schedule an appointment before your child’s fourth birthday.

  • Mon, Jan 18    2-7 pm

  • Tues, Jan 19   2-7 pm

  • Wed, Jan 20   8:30 am-12:00 pm

  • Fri, Mar 4       8:30 am-12:00 pm

  • Mon, Mar 14    2-6:30 pm

Color Days

We have been learning about different colors the last three months of school. This month we will start working on white and blue.  During the weeks that we’re focusing on blue, we ask you to help your child to bring something blue and/or wear blue on January 19th and January 20th.

Author Celebration

We will want to encourage our children’s love reading and show them how they can live different adventures and stories just having fun with a book. For that reason, we will give them the opportunity to bring one book they love from home and share it with the rest of the group.

As we want to make sure everybody can bring her/his book, we will send you a schedule this week, with all the students names and the days they can bring it to school. Just remember that this book can stay at the school for all the week, it will depend on how much time do they have to share in one day.

Book Orders

The book order were sent home on January 4/5th. and the last day to order them will be on January 15th. Orders from this month’s flyers can be placed online: Scholastic Reading Club

Nov 10 - Picture Retake Day

Hi Families,

As you have probably noticed, Nancy has been out of the building more during the last few weeks.  Since my arrival, I have been in the process of taking on some of her responsibilities.

Nancy will continue to work with Kinder Prep, but will not be in the building everyday.

We have also hired, Sharon DeRaad.  Sharon is a recently retired Kindergarten teacher from Forest Lake. She will be coming in from time to time to work with our students and families and helping us to enrich our program even more!  We are excited to have her on staff.

Another change that you may have noticed is that we moved Profe Ricardo to the 4 year old Spanish classroom.  We wanted have more consistency by keeping the teacher assistants the same from week to week in all the rooms.

Feel free to ask or email me with anything you need. I will be very happy to help your kids and you always.

See you this week,

Blanca Orteu

Important Change - Applying for Kindergarten

We discovered that the rollover of students into the kindergarten application process isn’t possible.  You will need to complete a new application for the 2016-17 school year before the January deadline. If you have questions regarding enrollment, please feel free to contact Tracy Maurer at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Enrollment Applications for 2016-17 kindergarten are now being accepted online.

Parents of Students in Our 3-Year-Old Classes

You do not have to reapply for Kinder Prep for 2016-17. If you plan to attend next year, then we will update your application from 2015 to 2016 after you submit the registration fee of $40 for the 2016-17 school year.
