Exciting Plans Are Underway for Fall 2016!

Please take a moment to read the Spring 2016 Update from Cam and Shannon:

 High School

As the Headwaters Campus makes room for grades 9 - 12, we are excited to provide the opportunity for our students to continue under the umbrella of the IB, as a candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP). We also welcome new students in grades 6- 12; students who join us in Upper School are not required to have previous second language experience!

We have already hired some exceptional teachers. Look for more information and teacher bios to be published next month. If you know students ages 11 to 17 who are thinking about starting with us in grades 6-12, please have them contact us or come on a tour soon.

5th Grade

Part of the reconfiguration for the Headwaters Campus calls for moving the 5th grade back to the Main Campus. We have plans before the City Planning Commission to add four classrooms at some point in the future at the Main Campus, and to immediately renovate the LILA Annex building to make good classroom space for 5th grade. We most likely will have four fifth-grade classrooms next year at the Annex, which will be in newly renovated spaces. Fifth graders will have their lunch, media, and gym periods in the Main Campus buildings. Our scheduling will prioritize 5th grade to minimize travel across the street. We have also told the ambulance service that we will need that space back at the end of their lease in December 2016. This space will be renovated into Special Education and subject specialist classrooms.

Long-Range Plans

The LILA school board’s strategic plan is to provide an IB curriculum from Pre-K through 12th grade. We anticipate providing international travel opportunities for our Upper School students who want to participate. We are in the process of arranging an educational trip to China next fall or winter, which would include shadowing Chinese students in their school, staying with a Chinese family, and visiting several important cultural sites as well. In addition, we’re gathering information about internships, PSEO, service trips, and other educational experiences outside the classroom for our Upper School students. We’re open to ideas! Our goal is to create global citizens and lifelong learners. We’re glad you’re part of the LILA community to help make that happen!
