Minnesota Twins Day - Monday, March 21

Wear your Minnesota Twins gear on March 21!

In honor of Jackie Robinson's achievements in breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball, the Minnesota Twins will send front office staff and friends to visit with 4th- and 5th-grade students on Monday, March 21, 2016. The visitors will read a story about Jackie Robinson to students and show a brief video; in addition, students could win prizes in a quick trivia contest!

Students in those grades are also invited to participate in the Minnesota Twins' local version of the Jackie Robinson Breaking Barriers Essay Contest. The same contest criteria and rules apply, but students should submit their essays to their classroom teacher by March 24.

All students should wear their Twins gear or anything red or blue to welcome our guests.

Governor's Proclamation & National Award Celebration, Dec. 8

LILA recently won a national best-practices award from Character.org for the thumbprint painting in our Headwaters Campus lobby, an inclusive project designed to symbolize the personal impact each of us at LILA brings to our learning community.

Rep. Bob Dettmer has secured a proclamation from Governor Dayton in honor of the award, which will make Dec. 8 LILA Day in Minnesota.

Rep. Dettmer will present the proclamation to LILA on Dec. 8, at 9:00 a.m., in the Headwaters Campus cafeteria during a special celebration event. The Color Guard and Mayor of Forest Lake will be here. Several diginitaries and representatives will make brief remarks. We'll also offer a school tour to the guests following the presentation.

LILA students and staff should wear their LILA gear on Dec. 8. LILA parents are invited to attend the celebration event.
