Sick Child

Should You Send Your Sick Child To Kinder Prep?

Sniffles? Headache? Rash? There’s never a good day for a little person to be sick. Because we care about your child and all of the children in our program, please keep your child home from Kinder Prep if you see or suspect any of the following illnesses:

  • Vomiting: Child may not return until 24 hours after the vomiting has stopped without the aid of medication.
  • Severe cold symptoms
  • Discharge from eyes or ears
  • Diarrhea: Child may not return to school until 24 hours after the diarrhea has stopped without the aid of medication.
  • Undiagnosed rash
  • Profuse nasal discharge
  • Temperature above 100 degrees (orally). Child may not return until 24 hours after the temperature has returned to normal without medication.
  • Exposure to communicable disease, such as whooping cough, measles, mumps, pink eye, ringworm, fifth’s disease, chicken pox, diphtheria, scarlet fever, strep throat, lice, etc.

We ask that children remain home for 24 hours after the last vomiting episode and 24 hours after fever returns to normal without the aid of medication. Please consult the Parent Handbook for more information.

Contact Kinder Prep to report the absence.

What If Illnesses Happen At Kinder Prep?

But sometimes a child looks fine in the morning and becomes sick at Kinder Prep. Then what?

  • If your child becomes sick at Kinder Prep, we isolate your son or daughter from others for his or her own comfort and to prevent spreading the illness. We will notify a parent of the situation.
  • If we cannot reach a parent, we will call the emergency contact listed on your child’s registration form.
  • Kinder Prep staff will take appropriate measures to care for your child until a parent arrives.

See the Kinder Prep FAQ for more information about attending our program.

Kinder Prep FAQ

Kinder Prep Preschool FAQ

Please review the Parent Handbook for more detailed explanations of Kinder Prep’s policies and procedures. If you have questions during the school year about your child’s care, please contact us.

Q. What do I do if my child/ren are going to be absent from Kinder Prep?

A. Call Kinder Prep at 651-464-0771 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by 7:30 a.m. to notify the Kinder Prep staff that your child will be absent from the program. Please keep in mind that Kinder Prep does not give a refund for absences.

Q. Which languages do you introduce?

A. We rotate instruction in Spanish and Chinese. We also occasionally use English when Ms. Sharon teaches or when we have English-speaking visitors.

Q. What type of curriculum do you use?

A. LILA is an accredited International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme World School for preschool through sixth grade. Our daily schedule reflects the IB curriculum and the Responsive Classroom approach. We infuse language learning with a global perspective, mirroring the type of curriculum used at Lakes International Language Academy. Our goal is kindergarten readiness.

Q. What does it mean to have a 4 STAR rating from Parent Aware?

A. Our rating shows that we are committed to school readiness, ongoing professional development, and developing strong relationships with our families.

Q. Does my child have to attend every day of the week?

A. No. Kinder Prep was designed to accommodate some schedule flexibility for parents and children. We offer Kinder Prep Full Time: Monday - Friday; Kinder Prep Part-Time: Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday. Kinder Prep is an excellent introduction to establishing a school routine for your child—regardless of the schedule you choose.

Q. Does attending Kinder Prep guarantee admittance to Lakes International Language Academy?

A. No, enrolling your child at LILA Kinder Prep does not provide an advantage for enrolling in kindergarten at Lakes International Language Academy. Charter school law prohibits preferential enrollment for students unless the child has a previously enrolled sibling or is the child of a teacher at the school.

Q. What are the occasional or extended care options?

A. In addition to our regular daily programming for three- and four-year-old preschoolers, LILA offers daily childcare options between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at an extra cost. Care is provided by LILA's Little Explorers Program. For information regarding registration and scheduling, visit the Little Explorer section of our website.

Q. Can we change Kinder Prep sessions after the school year begins?

A. Changing from Kinder Prep Partial Week to Kinder Prep Full Week may be a possibility, depending on staff availability. We strongly encourage you to maintain a regular routine throughout the school year to help prepare your child for kindergarten classes. Please contact the Kinder Prep staff to discuss schedule changes.

Please contact the Kinder Prep staff with any questions or concerns you may have.
