Lakes International Explorer Club FAQ
Lakes International Explorer Club (formerly Amigos) for school-age care has operated at LILA since 2004. We have tried to anticipate a lot of the common situations in our program documents, such as the Parent Handbook. But we know that you’ll have questions during the school year about your child’s care. Please contact us if you don’t see an answer to any question you may have.
Q. What do I do if my child/ren are going to be absent from Lakes International Explorer Club?
Q. Do I need to notify both LILA and Explorer Club when my child/ren are absent from school?
A. Yes, it is important to notify both the school and Explorer Club that your child will be absent. Our attendance systems are different.
Q. Do I need to notify Explorer Club when my child attends an after-school activity?
A. Yes, please notify the Explorer Club office by email when your child will be attending an after-school activity while in the Explorer Club school-age care program. Please include:
- Child’s name
- The name of the activity (for example, Mad Science)
- The day and time (for example, Wednesdays from 2:10-3:15 p.m.)
- The duration of the activity (for example, Sept. 10 through Nov. 30)
Q. What type of homework assistance do you provide at Explorer Club?
A. Explorer Club continues to work closely with the teachers here at LILA to provide a structured homework setting for children to have the options of reading or doing their homework packets for approximately 30 minutes each day. Explorer Club staff encourage children to utilize this time wisely. Due to the number of children in our after-school program, it is important that PARENTS CHECK AND CORRECT HOMEWORK. Explorer Club staff may sign off on the reading steps, if your child/ren have read quietly or have been read to for 15 minutes (1 Step).
Q. Is tutoring available through Explorer Club during homework time?
A. Explorer Club staff is available to answer general questions during homework time. If your child needs more specific assistance or continues to struggle with his/her homework, tutoring may be available, for an additional cost, through LILA.
