Lower School

Camp del Sol and Camp Taiyang

Join us for a fun way to ease into language immersion for new students or brush up on language skills for returning students.

Generally, all activities are conducted in Spanish or Chinese at an age-appropriate level. Incoming kindergarteners will have a daily language arts component as well as games, songs, crafts, and storytelling. Campers will also participate in some form of physical education each day. Returning students will follow themes for each day.

Parents must pack a lunch from home. You must also arrange for transportation; no bus service is available.

PLEASE NOTE: Camp is offered Monday through Thursday. There is no camp on Friday.

Daily language arts activities, games, songs, crafts, storytelling, and physical education.  

Returning Spanish & Chinese Students

Monday, July 17 - Thursday, July 20 • 9:00 - 2:00

In addition to language practice through activities and physical education, returning students will follow a daily theme:

  • Monday – Artful Antics
  • Tuesday – Sensational Science
  • Wednesday – Wacky Water
  • Thursday – Amazing Race

Study hard. Play hard. "Balance" is one of the IB learner profiles, and we encourage LILA students to participate in team sports or club activities in addition to their studies. Upper School teams are listed below. Lower School and some of the clubs that are operated by non-LILA organizations may have different forms for each club or activity (for example, Ski Club has its own form).

Spring Sports Begin Soon

We're hoping to offer a wide variety of sports this spring, including co-ed track and field, co-ed clay targets, girls' synchro, boys' baseball, and possibly golf (some sports depend on how many people register or if we have facilities available). Try something new! More info is coming soon, so check back often. Register through RSchool Today and use FeePay for activities/athletics fees.

Co-Ed Clay Targets

Register by March 1, 2017. See more info on this fast-growing sport at the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League. LILA's season is Tuesday, April 4 - May 30. Students meet every Tuesday at 5 p.m., rain or shine, at the Forest Lake Sportsman's Club. Parents are responsible for transporting the student and equipment (i.e., firearm) to the range. Go onto FeePay for payment.

Costs for Clay Targets:

  • $120 (registration fee includes athletic fee and range fees; total of 18 rounds of trap)
  • $100-$140 for ammunition (approx. cost for 20 boxes of shells; On FeePay, you can buy ammo for $129)
  • $35 for the MN high school trap league registration fee (this is who you need to register with by March 1st)
  • $52 (optional) for additional 10 practice rounds
    Total cost: $250-$350 depending on practice rounds purchased and ammunition

Equipment needed:

  • Shotgun (all types allowed; must not exceed 12 gauge)
  • Ammunition (factory ammo)
  • Eye protection
  • Ear protection
  • Shoes (closed-toe)

Co-Ed Track and Field

Advisors: Profe Janet and Profe Angie. Register online. Cost: $170. Season begins March 21.

Archery Team

Open to 6th-12th graders; practices are held at the Main Campus Lower School (246 11th Ave SE, Forest Lake)

Spring Sports Registration Information

• All practice and game cancellations and other announcements will be communicated via email and/or social media.
• Game schedules will be released when they are finalized.

Cancellation Notice: LILA strives to maintain low activity fees. We base the fees, in part, on anticipated registrations. Students will be required to pay for half of the student athletic fee, if they choose to quit after they have participated in any of the first week practices. If a student attends any practice after the first week, and then decides to quit, they will be responsible for the entire student athletic fee.

So much happens all the time at LILA and our surrounding communities—it’s hard to keep up with all of the opportunities here. Check out these resources for clubs, organizations, and regular activities for LILA students. Let us know of any others! We don’t specifically endorse or recommend any particular organization here, but we encourage our students to become involved and active citizens.

Some clubs and activities are open at certain times of the year. When we receive information from the advisor, we try to keep the information updated here. Let us know if you have ideas for additional sports or have questions about those listed here.

Clubs And Activities For Upper School Students

Clubs and activities information may change from year to year, depending on student interest and coaches or facilities availability. This list provides an idea of what LILA students can explore after school. Contact the listed advisor for the most up-to-date information for this school year.

Co-Ed Gardening Club: Advisor is Profe Erin. First meeting is March 20.

Anime/Otaku Club Session 1 and 2: Advisor is Ken Schuster (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Cost: $35 per session. Meeting times: Every other Monday 2:15-3:45.

  • Session 1: Monday, October 10-Monday, December 12
  • Session 2: Monday, March 20-Monday, May 22

Model United Nations (Grades 7-12): This activity encourages students to practice the arts of compromise and diplomacy to attempt to solve pressing global problems through role-playing. Read the LILA Modeul UN flyer here. The advisors are Jennifer May and Erin Turner. Registration opened in early February. This program is through the YMCA (more info). Students register through a link from the YMCA. Cost: $400 to participate, including hotel and fees for the main event March 30-April 1. Meeting times: TBD, once a week or more closer to the event.

Yearbook Committee (application required; 2016-17 selections completed): Applications were available Monday, October 31, 2016 in the front office. The completed application and two teacher recommendations were to be turned in by Thursday, November 10. The committee was decided by Tuesday, November 15. The first meeting was Wednesday, November 16. Melissa Navratil is the advisor (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and the committee meets Wednesdays after school (2:30-4:30) through April. If selected, the cost to join was $60. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system and use Feepay for registration fee.

Musical (auditions required): The 2017 production was Seussical Jr. The advisor was Kristina Kofski (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). An informational meeting was held at HW at 2:30 on Wednesday, October 26. Auditions were Wednesday, November 2 with callbacks on Wednesday, November 9. Rehearsals were every Wednesday and Friday after school (2:30-5:30). The cost to participate was $80 (a $25 audition fee and a $55 participation fee). Every student who auditions will be given a part. The show dates were February 24 and 25. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system and use Feepay for registration fee. NOTE: Students could participate in Monday activities (e.g., NHS/NJHS/Student Government) and Ski Club in addition to the Musical, but rehearsals conflicted with other Winter Sports.

Behind the Scenes: The advisor was Eileen King (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). This 2017 activity supported the Musical, meeting on Wednesdays and Fridays (2:30-4:30) until the show on February 24 and 25. The cost was $25. Students learned about and worked on behind-the-scenes areas of theater participation, such as set design and construction, costumes, lights, and sound. The Musical and Behind the Scenes were two separate activities. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system and use Feepay for registration fee.

History Day: See a clip from our performance team national winners. National History Day is an interdisciplinary research project for students in grades 6-12. History Day teaches students to conduct in-depth research, use primary and secondary sources, read a variety of texts, analyze and synthesize information and write and present historical content. Students choose a topic that relates to an annual theme, research that topic, and develop their research into one of five presentation categories: research paper, exhibit, documentary, performance, or website. Students may then enter their projects into History Day competitions at school, regional, state, and national levels. Advisors for 2017 were Kaari Rodriguez and Upper School's Individuals and Societies Teachers. Cost: $60. The start date was Monday, October 17th. Meeting times: Mondays (2:30-4:30) 10/17, 10/24, 11/14, 11/21, 11/28, 12/5, 12/12, January i-terms, Mondays in February if needed. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system and use Feepay for registration fee.

Destination Imagination - See a video about this exciting club. The regional tournament is March 25; the season continues if teams qualify for the state tournament. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) are the advisors. DI meets Mondays from 2:30-4:30. The cost is $110. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system or use Feepay for registration fee.

Math Counts: The advisor is Danica Scharlemann. The start date was Monday, October 24. Cost: $60. Meeting times: Mondays, 2:30-4:30, or as determined by advisor. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system or use Feepay for registration fee.

Student Government: 2016-17 Student Government members have been chosen for this year. Congratulations!

National Junior Honor Society (Grades 6-8 application required): NJHS members have been chosen for this year. Congratulations!

National Honor Society (Grades 9-12 application required): NJHS members have been chosen for this year. Congratulations!

First LEGO Robotics Team (open to 6th-9th grade): Teams collaborate to build and program an autonomous robot to score points on a thematic playing surface (the Robot Game) and create an innovative solution to a problem correlated to the yearly theme (the Project), all while guided by the FLL Core Values. Robotics provides a team-based, hands-on, competitive robotics program that challenges and creates exciting learning opportunities for young people. It started on Monday, October 24 and met every Monday and Thursday from 2:30-4:30. The regional competition was November 19 at Prior Lake High School. If the team advances, practices continue through the next competition date. Cost: $150. Students could register on the RSchool Today online registration system or use Feepay for registration fee.
